Runners from many countries will be kicking off their WOC preparations in Scotland in June this year at Sprint Scotland. So far in the open classes there are entrants from Norway, Finland, Belgium, Australia, Denmark, Spain, Hong Kong, USA, New Zealand and of course Great Britain – including a number of national team runners such as Yannick Michiels, Øystein Kvaal Østerbø, Jonny Crickmore, Lone Karin Brochmann and Laura Robertson.
The event is taking place in Bo’ness (near Edinburgh) from 20-23rd June. Thursday and Friday offer an opportunity to get some coaching (from GB team runner Chris Smithard) and practice skills before the weekend racing. On Saturday there are 2 sprint races, and on Sunday there is another sprint for the Open class, whilst all other classes have a longer urban-style race. All races are World Ranking Events, and Races 1 and 2 are included in the Scottish and UK Urban Orienteering Leagues.
The weekend offers high quality sprint/urban orienteering for all ages and levels on brand new maps (made by WOC 2024 mapper Graham Gristwood). Entries are available at sprintscotland.co.uk.
