Welcome to Edinburgh

The wait is over - WOC is here!

Welcome! On behalf of the Scottish Orienteering 6-Day Event Company and all our partners we are proud to welcome you to Edinburgh and the Sprint Orienteering World Championships 2024.

Edinburgh Castle from the Grassmarket

From 11th until 16th July, orienteering will take over Edinburgh as the city provides the perfect background for five days of racing – for everyone from elite athletes to amateur competitors taking part in the WOC Tour.

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the leading festival city in the world, Edinburgh is packed with narrow and intricate alleys and of course the iconic Edinburgh Castle and Palace of Holyroodhouse. Edinburgh is one of the most stunning and enthralling cities in the world, and we are delighted to welcome you.

There is plenty on offer for every WOC 2024 spectator. As well as finish arenas for the elite races, there are free family activities on offer throughout the week, including orienteering mazes, fun races and all the action on live screens. Find out more here.

For those taking part in the amateur WOC Tour, you will use many of the same areas as the WOC races themselves, ensuring you are able to discover the city whilst racing at whatever pace you want. Don’t forget the official WOC 2024 Opening Ceremony on Friday 12th July in Princes Street Gardens and that we are encouraging everyone at WOC 2024 to use public transport wherever possible.

Upper Deeside and the Invercauld Estate

We hope you enjoy your visit to Edinburgh and we look forward to welcoming you back to Scotland next year to take part in the 2025 Scottish 6-Days Orienteering Event.

To celebrate the 25th Scottish 6-Days we are going back to our roots, with the races taking place in the orienteering jewel which is Royal Deeside – the location of our first ever event in 1977. The area is well-known for copious amounts of contour detail and glorious forested hills, with spectacular views over the River Dee. We will meet you there next summer from Sunday 27th July to Friday 1st August 2025.
